Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ'S...

Is participation in the Marching Band required to be in the Concert Band?

While it is not REQUIRED to be in 8th period band, we do require that all students attend at least two rehearsals during the summer.  This will give each student a chance to become familiar with Carroll and see if marching band is for them.

Does the band have instruments like guitar, bass, or drum set?
No.  All students must play a traditional band instrument. Students who play these instruments are encouraged to be in the band, but they must learn new instruments.  Instruments will be provided by the school and lessons will be given free of charge.

Can I participate in other activities while in the band?

YES!!!  The director understands that high school is a time for students to participate in many activites.  The band director will work around sports schedules and other activities.  Currently, there are students in the band who participate in freshman football, lacrosse, soccer, track, tennis, best buddies, NHS, mock trial, and many others.

Are there auditions to be in the ACHS Band?

NO!  All Students interested in music are encouraged to participate.  ACHS will provide lessons as part of the tuition.  All the student needs to provide is the will to learn.

Does participating in Band count as academic credit?

YES!!!  Students participating in 8th period band are graded based on their willingness to learn.  If a student plays in band, pays attention, and comes to lessons they should have an "easy" A.  Also, band becomes an honors class after Sophmore year.   Finally, participation in band will count towards service points for the National Honor Society.
